Another year has passed with many and varied projects both in progress and recently completed. The new Bitumen Storage facility at Terminals Geelong is nearing completion with commissioning planned for early 2008, and we have on-going projects in Perth, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
The Team at Norton Consultants wishes all of our clients (both old and new) a very Happy Christmas and a prosperous 2008.
We have many and varied projects on the go at all major airports in Australia including Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth.  The completion of the Brisbane Airport Pipeline upgrade resulted in a request for a similar RTUNet 'Kingfisher' remote telemetry system to replace an ageing Email 'Microtran' system whilst providing a few additional features.
Design of the new Bitumen Storage facility at Terminals Geelong is now complete with construction tenders to be awarded soon, and we continue to assist Manildra Group with delineation of hazardous areas.
Check back soon or call us for more details..

The New Year starts with the completion of commissioning of the new control system for the Brisbane International Airport fuel supply pipelines on behalf of our client, Shell Aviation, to increase reliabilty and operator control.
This project entailed the integration of a new RTUNet 'Kingfisher' remote telemetry system into the existing CitectSCADA operator interface, including de-commissioning and replacement of the Square-D PLC control system at the Lomandra Drive Depot and commissioning of a new pipeline control panel at Shell Pinkenba Terminal. All works were carried out with the pipelines in full operation, since disruption of supply to this busy international airport was not acceptable to our client or the general public.
The month we also announce the retirement of former Managing Director, Mr John Waldron, after many years of service to both the company and industry.  On behalf of the many clients who knew him, we wish him and his family well for the future.
The installation of a new variable-speed constant-pressure hydrant refuelling system at Darwin International Airport, Northern Territory, is now complete providing a marked increase in reliability and fuel flow rates to meet the ever-growing demand of this busy centre.
Building upon the success of the Hansa TCS Hydrant Leak Detection system project at Brisbane International Airport are several upgrades to aging control systems coupled with an extension of the International Terminal fuel hydrant, due to be completed later this year.
We have been engaged by one of our long-term clients Terminals Pty Ltd to provide detailed electrical engineering design and project management assistance for the new Butadiene Sphere being installed at Geelong Terminal, North Shore, Victoria. Included in this ambitious project is a simultaneous upgrade of the site control system to comply with the latest requirements for plant safety.
After months of extended delays, the Hansa TCS Hydrant leak detection system at Adelaide Airport was finally installed and commissioned last month, providing a highly-accurate warning of fuel leakage from the new fuel hydrant to the Depot Operators.
Following from the innovative and highly-successful Air BP Perth Airport JUHI Depot upgrade last visited in 2002 comes the opportunity for the design and documentation of a similar variable-speed constant-pressure hydrant refuelling system and extensions for Darwin International Airport, Northern Territory.
Other projects on our books include the installation of a new pipeline control system for Shell at Brisbane Airport and the commissioning of the Hansa TCS Hydrant leak detection system for Adelaide Airport's new hydrant system.
On the 24th June 1975, Mr R. Mark Norton founded R.M. Norton & Associates Pty Ltd and we have come a long way since those humble beginnings.
To celebrate this auspicious occasion, this month we launched our new look website. The work was completed by Ben Stockdale (www.stockdale.id.au) and makes extensive use of CSS to allow for increased search engine optimisation and ease of editing.
Since the last update we have been engaged by Jet Turbine Services to assist with specialist engineering services associated with the upgrade of their Jet Engine Test facilities at Operations Road, Tullamarine.
Of particular interest is the high voltage supply to the site which has been the subject of extended negotiations between ourselves and the Airport Authority on behalf of our client.
If we can assist you in this area, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Presentations by our new Director at Citect's highly-successful "Citect Connects" User Conferences in both Melbourne and Brisbane were very well received and we are looking forward to participating in next year's event.
On behalf of all of us at Norton Consultants, we wish our clients (both old and new) a very Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
We take pleasure in announcing the appointment of Mr Cameron Dorrough to the role of Managing Director of Norton Consultants Pty Ltd, effective July 2004.
Cameron joined Norton Consultants Pty Ltd (then R.M. Norton & Associates Pty Ltd) as a graduate electrical engineer in 1991. Since then he has gained experience in all aspects of company operations and with a wide range of clients and projects.
In making the announcement at a recent staff function, outgoing Managing Director Mr John Waldron was quoted as saying We are extremely pleased that Cameron has agreed to take on this role and allow us to focus upon better meeting the needs of our clients.
Mr Waldron will remain with Norton Consultants Pty Ltd for the forseeable future, taking on the role of Senior Electrical Engineer and concentrating his considerable expertise in the field of Hazardous Area assessment. Associated with this changeover, Mr John Vickers will remain in his role as Senior Mechanical Engineer, and assisting with client relations.
We were recently notified that Norton Consultants Pty Ltd have won a Citect Regional (VIC) Excellence Award for Innovation for the Hansa TCS Hydrant Leak Detection system project at Brisbane Airport against a field of highly-competitive entries.
These awards are being issued by Citect to commemorate their 30th Anniversary as a leading provider of automation solutions, to recognize and reward individuals and organizations that have achieved excellence in the application of Citect technologies. Click below for more details:
** Norton Consultants win Citect Regional (VIC) Award for Innovation **
Naturally, all here in the office are quite excited, although we will now have to wait until the Citect User Conference in late October for the presentation ceremony. In the meantime, we have updated the Awards page to reflect this award and another issued by Air BP for the Perth Airport pipeline project. We look forward to seeing our loyal clients at the Citect User Conferences in Melbourne and Brisbane.
Since the last update, the installation of the Hansa TCS Hydrant Leak Detection system at Brisbane Airport is now complete. This is the first installation of Hansaconsult's new "TCS for Windows NT' software in Australia.
On the heels of this highly successful installation comes two more Hydrant Leak Detection Systems - one for ExxonMobil at Melbourne's Tullamarine Airport and one for the Adelaide Airport Authority as part of Adelaide Airport's New Terminal Project.
*** Recent Updates: Airport Refuelling , Shipping & Maritime ***
If we can be of service to you, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Now that we have settled in to our new premises, we have added Shipping & Maritime to the projects list. Norton Consultants have expertise in the design of maritime electrical systems to ABS, DNV, RINA and Lloyds Standards.
At this moment, we have a good deal of work in various stages of completion with the largest project being the installation of a Hansa TCS Hydrant Leak Detection system at Brisbane Airport. This project is a great opportunity for us to improve on the original Electrical installation at the Hakea Street JUHI Depot, completed by us for The Shell Company over ten years ago now.
Back then, the latest technology was installed including then-new computer control and monitoring over a wide-area network. The original PLC system we installed back then is still fully operational and justifies our comprehensive detailed design and selection procedures which have changed little since that date. Even after decades have past, Norton Consultants fully support this installation.
Should you require further information on this or other innovative projects we are progressing please do not hesitate to contact us.
